Arecibo Lighthouse

Arecibo Lighthouse, Arecibo, Puerto Rico

Arecibo is one of those towns that most tourists never visit.  However, Arecibo has some of the most spectacular landscapes in Puerto Rico. So if you are into photography, especially landscape photography, Arecibo is sure to be a special treat.

Perhaps the most popular stop in the township of Arecibo is the Arecibo Lighthouse and Historical Park.  Lighthouses are always popular among photographers.  But in the case of the Arecibo Lighthouse we’re talking about a recently reconstructed structure that was built by the Spaniards in 1898.

Next to the lighthouse there’s a historical park where kids can learn about the taíno Indians that populated the Island when Christopher Columbus arrived, the Spanish culture that took over after the 15th century, the pirates that sailed theses waters during Spanish times and the North American culture that took over after the 19th century.
