“Doña Fela” Museum

After entering San Juan Gate you will be met by the intersection of two streets.  La Caleta de San Juan, which is the one entering straight into the city and “Clara Lair” Street which leads left or right from where you stand.

You will also notice a pink colonial building on the intersection of Caleta de San Juan and Clara Lair.  This used to be the residence of the late mayor of San Juan Felisa Rincón de Gautier.  Today the building houses a museum dedicated to our beloved “Doña Fela” (read our extended coverage of the Felisa Rincón De Gautier Museum here).

Sadly, politics is very visceral in Puerto Rico, and those that do not belong to one’s political party are often considered the enemy.  But “Doña Fela” went well beyond all that.  She was a true public servant and an absolute pioneer that should be emulated by many of today’s public figures.
