Plaza “Las Américas”

Plaza Las Américas is by far the largest and most complete enclosed mall in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean.  It opened its doors on September 12, 1968 with 79 tenants, two movie theaters and parking for 4,000 vehicles.  At the time Plaza Las Americas’ mayor tenants were J.C. Penney’s, Sears Roebuck & Co, González Padín and Velazco.  Of the four, González Padín & Velazco (both local) ceased operations many years ago while J.C. Penneys and Sears are still in operation and are amongst the most profitable in the world.

Today Plaza Las Américas and its tenants hold several world titles. The Radio Shack and Puma stores at Plaza are both the busiest and highest grossing in the world.  The Macy’s store is the highest grossing in the world and the first one to open outside the continental USA.  The J.C. Penneys at Plaza is the largest in the world and one of the most profitable.  Plaza’s Chili’s restaurant is also the highest grossing in the world.

And one important thing about Plaza Las Américas: it’s a mall like no other that you’ll find on the mainland.  At Plaza you will find a mix of local, European an American merchandize like no other.  Many stores at Plaza have learned (sometimes the hard way) that Puerto Ricans are very fickle about fashion. So you’ll always find the latest and most trendsetting merchandize in the Caribbean.
