If you’re vis­it­ing Puer­to Rico, and you arrived by air­plane, you prob­a­bly arrived at Luis Muñoz Marín Inter­na­tion­al Air­port. Luis Muñoz Marín Inter­na­tion­al Air­port is a joint civ­il-mil­i­tary air­port locat­ed in the town of Car­oli­na, Puer­to Rico.

Accord­ing to offi­cial records Luis Muñoz Marín Inter­na­tion­al Air­port is locat­ed 3 miles to the east of San Juan, but that’s because those cal­cu­la­tions are based on the munic­i­pal city lim­its of each town.  Actu­al­ly, if you stay in a hotel in the Con­da­do hotel dis­trict the dri­ve will be about 7 miles and if you stay in Old San Juan it will be about 10.  Either way, the air­port is right next to the Island’s may­or land­marks and attractions.

Luis Muñoz Marín Inter­na­tion­al Air­port is the Puer­to Rico’s main inter­na­tion­al gate­way and one its only two con­nec­tions to the Unit­ed States.  It is owned by the Puer­to Rico Port Author­i­ty and oper­at­ed by Aerostar Pub­lic Hold­ings.  In 2012 a total of 8,448,172 pas­sen­gers went through Luis Muñoz Marín Inter­na­tion­al Airport.
